pain & sleep

I am 77 years old and have tried all your recommendations for sleep. Pills, 8 pod, set sleep and wake up times, light in the morning, a dark, cool room at night, exercise several hours before going to bed, intermittent eating, vitamins, I eat a light meal several hours before going to bed. I also meditate, journal, and use my hot tub. I do not watch stuff on TV or other devices; when I nap, I do so in the early afternoon and no longer than one hour, and I sleep with a CPAP machine. I do all these things to deal with my insomnia. I still have a difficult time going to sleep and staying asleep. I often only get 3 to 4 hours of sleep, which is insufficient. My second issue that contributes to my inability to get a good night's sleep and is disturbing during the day is pain in my left lower back, hip, leg, calf, and foot, which gets worse at night. Sometimes, my right side does the same thing. I have tried physical therapy, chiropractic sessions, rolfing, somatic therapy, massage, acupuncture, stretching, and pills. I am still in pain quite often. Can you help me deal with these two situations? Peace, Ray

Women health initiative

Hi Andy and team, I wonder if Andy could give us a lecture on the Women Health Initiative prior to the 2nd podcast with Dr Sarah Gottfried is organized/released. It would allow us to be, then, prepared for the in-depth discussion with Dr Gottfried. On top of increasing knowledge, one of the outcomes would be to help the perimenopause and the < 5-10y women in menopause to prepare the questions for the ob-gyn and get HRT/MRH. I'd be grateful if a list of references could be pull together to share with the ob-gyns to help melting down resistance on HRT/MRH. For the questions to Dr Gottfried: - how to ensure that perimenopause is taught largely to women. It would help women to anticipate the changes. I became aware at 52 that menopause is, above all, starting in the brain with effects all over the body. BTW: I've now a very short window to start and benefit of the HRT and I do not want to miss it. - how to train physicians / ob-gyns on the benefit of HRT - prior to take the HRT, the following analysis are on-going: blood, urine, DEXA, mammography (dense tissue seen in a prior mammography) - mammography: due to the insurance coverage, I need to wait some months prior to getting the mammography, with, hopefully, the green light to start the HRT; in between, I'm putting in place the Zone 2, the Speed Interval training and the weight lifting to support my body. Food and meditation are almost under control. - my worst period was the perimenopause: when I shared my frustration with my ob-gyn to not have been aware that that ver bad period was due to perimenopause, I was told that during peri, the HRT would not have been started. Is this a best practice? - Dr Gottfried shared that ACE trauma could enhance the menopause symptoms; I'm not astonished and I can confirm. On top of sport / food / meditation, what women should pay attention to? Thanks for this platform. All the best.

chronic lymphocytic leukemia/CLL

Hello, I am 47yo and would consider myself very healthy. This is what drew me to your messaging. I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I am at Stage 0, only time will tell, but as someone who does stand down from a challenge; what suggestions do you have for maintaining my health? I do not drink, smoke, no drug use and I eat no processed foods. I have a good balance when it comes to sleep as well. I appreciate your insight!
