In your most recent AMA #2, you thoroughly cover sleep cycles and the importance of each (Deep, REM, etc), that deep sleep and REM should be relatively balanced with each other at 30% (and not worrying about exactness here)... You also emphasize how alcohol and caffeine should ideally not be consumed within an 8-12 window prior to sleep to avoid affecting Deep sleep. After listening to your podcast on the effects of alcohol on our nervous system, I have since stopped drinking more than the 1-2 drinks per week and have felt my ability to stay asleep after waking up improve dramatically (I take the Momentous sleep packs each night 30 - 60 min before bed. They are very effective. TY!!) I recently went to a psilocybin retreat to aid in my anxious habits of thought (which has also aided me in reducing my cravings for alcohol when stressed) and would love to know what the effects of psilocybin are on our sleep cycles as well. I read a study that said it increased SWA latency and inferred that this was good as they associated it positively affecting depression in the study like SSRI's... but I must admit I don't understand what this means. I don't take any anti-depressants or any medications at this time and am focused on optimizing my health. Any light you could shed on psilocybin specifically on sleep would be amazing. Thank you for all you're doing for this world. My focus on health within my family and friend groups is finally gaining attention thanks to you!
I strength train in the mornings fasted with no problem, and prefer it. My question is about fasting the day before. Will my morning training suffer if I fast the entire day before but eat a proper dinner? The dinner would not contain a full day's worth of calories. It might be a half day's or quarter day's worth. Thanks!
I use sea salt in my morning water for the sodium part before I head out for strength training. Can you please inform on which type of potassium and magnesium would be best to add to the electrolyte mix and what ratio is ideal for athletes before and after training? Thank you.
Hi Dr. Huberman, I've watched a ton of your podcasts including the ADHD and dopamine ones. I guess I still found myself very confused about this but wanted some advice. Here's a little bit of background: I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12, and have taken all sorts of ADHD meds (Ritalin, Vyvanse, Adderal) consistently since then. My longest break from any stimulants was 3 months. Now I am 24 years old, and currently taking Adderal IR (1-2 pills daily (20mg ea)). I've heard so much controversy on whether you should take meds 365 days a year or be on a drug schedule, or if should you even use it at all. I personally want to get off of it, but I literally cannot function without it. I'm scared that if I try to get off of it, I may find that my focus is still very poor and I just wasted months sobering up. I've seen your dopamine video so I know my baseline is very low. I'm just wanting to understand whether it's worth it for me to recover completely from all these stimulants, or should I continue to take them? and if I continue to take them, how can I better manage the depressive crashes when I'm off it?
