Along with inhibiting 5 Alpha Reductase conversion into DHT (to prevent balding), finasteride also inhibits the conversion of progesterone to allopregnanolone. Could this be the cause of the anxiety, libido loss and cognitive deficits that come along with Post Finasteride Syndrome? If so, how could we counteract this and get allopregnanolone levels back up? Would taking low doses of progesterone help? GHB? GABA supplements?
Can you please do a deep dive on HRV, the science behind it, why its important, and most especially ways to increase it that are scientifically proved to work. My HRV is at best in the 40's at night (tracked by my oura ring) and most of the time its in mid 20's to mid 30's. I'd love a science geek out session on all things HRV please!
Can you expand on some specific protocols for those who are working shifts? I’m a cop in Oregon and our work week consists of shifts that are two 12hr day shifts, 24 hours off then two 12hr night shifts then 4days off. Shifts are 0600-1800 hours and nights shifts are 1800-0600 hours. My problem is, I don’t normally sleep more than a few hours between my two night shifts 3-4 at the most because my body wants to be awake. I work out religiously 3-4 x a week primarily strength/hypertropy and eat clean 5 days a week. I feel healthy but I unfortunately rarely sleep even when I’m not working. The podcast you talk on cortisol was a real eye opener. What suggestions would you give to help me with overall health and reducing cortisol levels? Workout/sleep/supplement regimen? Thank you for your time. Patrick
