What are your thoughts on the use of psychedelics to treat personality disorders given that psychedelics can redefine sense of self, effectively reshaping a person's view of themselves? Early clinical research suggests that psychedelics could increase empathy in people with narcissistic personality disorder because it gives them a more communal sense and connection to things outside of themselves. It isn't a factor of ego dissolution but rather it seems to be a result of changing the NPD's perspective to be more inclusive of others. Could psychedelics one day soon offer a pharmacologic treatment option for people with NPD and BPD with or without corresponding talk therapy? Are there other modalities that currently exist that do something similar in the brain to affect perspective changes and experiential effects that improve personality disorders? If you could do an episode of how personality disorders develop and what is happening in the brain that would be fantastic.
