I recently developed thyroid peroxidase antibodies, in which I understand that my immune system is attacking my thyroid cells and tissues. This can eventually lead to inflammation and a disruption of my thyroid function. I want to know if there is anything I can do to limit this process, especially as we want to try to have children soon (I am 31), and I know that having thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy can lead to cognitive defects in infants. That would be amazing if you could do an episode on thyroid functioning, and what steps expecting mothers could take for a safe pregnancy. Are there any supplements that could be beneficial? Is there anything that I should avoid? (I understand that iodine can worsen thyroid functioning in people who have TPOAb, but should I take it during pregnancy anyway as iodine need increases during pregnancy?). I think this would make a great topic, as there are so many women (and men!) with thyroid antibodies that would benefit greatly from more information on how best to manage thyroid health. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful resource for people, and for making neuroscience accessible to the public.
I'm 38 years old, father of young two boys. Last winter, I had a brain surgery to remove a cavernoma in the temporal lobe, near the optic tract. Four days later, I had a stroke that paralysed my right side of my entire body. Fortunately, i'm doing a lot better 8 months later. I'm an active man, who loved running but spasticity is still too intense on my leg to achieve even 1 km. BUT! Biking and yoga saved my mental and physical health. I'm pretty sure that accelerate my recovery a lot. Now, I really want to study to be a clinical exercise physiologist. Going back to school will be a big challenge for me. For now, I need to work and be patient to be concentrated and have my memory back. Would you recommend the same advises to increase memory, concentration and energy for those who had a stroke and surgery (particularly in the temporal lobe) as for regular healty people?
