If one has been diligent to keep the light dim throughout the evening, but then turns on bright light right before going to bed, does all the melatonin scatter like cockroaches? If not, how bright does the light need to be and how long does the exposure need to be to affect sleep after a full evening of dim lights?

About 7 years ago, I had the misfortune of losing weight in a hospital to the point my weight dropped below a critical level. When I woke up, my eyeballs (at least my impression) had sunk deep into my eye sockets and close to my brow bones. Even after I gained weight, there still remained(s) a deep hollow below my eyes and somewhat around the sides and they seem deep in my eye sockets and close to my brows. Could you explain what happened physiologically and if there are any sort of face exercises I could do to help? The face exercises I tried filled in my face, but did nothing for my eyes.
