Benefits and Science of Isometric Exercise

What superior / unique benefits (if any) are produced by isometric exercises relative to concentric or eccentric exercises? 2 reasons for asking: 1) what is know as “overcoming isometrics” seems to activate the nervous system more than the other styles of lifting. How does regular activation of this intense brain body connection impact our brain and body? 2) my physical therapist has recently washed away practically all of my clinically diagnosed arthritic knee and ankle pain via daily use of overcoming isometrics at the start of my workouts. It is no surprise that he also recently qualified for the US Olympic Bobsled team. I wonder if his prescribed methods promotes the release of other endogenous compounds in the body due to the intense neural activation. Thanks for science!

biological age from ear size

Hi, was just listening to the podcast #27 on hearing & balance where you talked about measuring the ear to get the biological age. We can't figure out how to measure to make sense, the OUTER circumference of my husband's ear is 179mm, and that makes him almost 178 years old, that certainly doesn't seem right, and looking up the original article on PubMed, the plot of ear sizes vs age have people in their 60's with less than 120mm. So the "circumference" is not what we think it is. Can you clarify?? Thanks. /portia
