Bridging the gap between neuroscience and spirituality

It seems like there's a gap between our current understanding of neuroscience and spirituality (whether secular or not) Researchers such as Dr. Bessel van der Kolk (author of "The Body Keeps the Score") have touched on the topic in the context of trauma. For me personally, spirituality helped me let go of insomnia and sleep anxiety where traditional techniques such as CBT-i not only failed but made things worse. Do you have thoughts on this topic?
